Schwarzenegger: The Novelisations

I have kind of an ongoing fascination with novelisations, so this piece on books based on Arnold Schwarzenegger films was a chance to indulge that. The excuse was the publication of Arnold’s autobiography: so this was a feature on Arnold in fiction to go alongside the non-fiction. The snippets of interview with Piers Anthony come from a feature I wrote for the magazine – again on novelisations, but wider ranging – in 2007.

Hiya! There are a few more novelizations. There are two Terminator ones, Huston’s and Frakes-Wisher’s, and one for Terminator 2 by Frakes alone. End of Days, Last Action Hero, Eraser, Jingle All The Way, and The Sixth Day also have a novelization. I don’t think Kindergarten Cop has one. I know there are other Terminator books but I’m not sure if T3 has its own novelization.

Sure – this feature was only about Arnold in the ’80s, which is why it stops at 1990 with Total Recall. But the books carried on, as you say. There was a Terminator 3 novelization by David Hagberg, and an original tie-in called Terminator 3: Terminator Dreams by Aaron Allston. Terminator: Salvation had a novelization and a couple of spin-offs too, if you count that…
