Second Empire movie news post of three; I’ll not bore you with too many of these. These two stories resulted from the UK Con/Lib coalition government’s decision to scrap the UK Film Council in mid-2010. It provoked quite a decent discussion in the comments thread, where the UKFC was by no means universally mourned.

Eighteen months later, Chris Smith’s report and recommendations on the post-UKFC British Film Industry was published. This followed a week of press kerfuffle in which Prime Minister David Cameron had seemed to suggest the report would advocate government funding for only the most commercial film projects. It didn’t.
